Energy Efficiency Solutions for Education

Considering that school systems retain buildings for decades, appropriate product selection is critical, as it can have a significant impact on the immediate and long-term performance and cost efficiency of a building. Starting with defining key terminology, this session will present an analytical approach for evaluating the various options, focusing on improved performance of an educational building. Topics covered will include continuous air barriers in the walls and roof, insulation, reflective roofing and pavements, and rooftop solar.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify key considerations when designing an energy-efficient project for educational settings.
  2. Identify effects of roof and pavement reflectivity on urban heating and building energy performance.
  3. Evaluate the impact air barriers have on energy performance of a building.
  4. Evaluate the impact of insulation selection on energy performance and carbon emissions in different climate zones.
